"Concentrate on the process and the outcome will look after itself." Trust and execute the plan to the best you can

"What we have is based upon moment-to-moment choices of what we do. In each of those moments, we choose. We either take a risk and move toward what we want, or we play it safe and choose comfort. Most of the people, most of the time, choose comfort. In the end, people either have excuses or experiences; reasons or results; buts or brilliance. They either have what they wanted or they have a detailed list of all the rational reasons why not."~ Anonymous

Well we are finally in 2009 and Ironman training is in FULL swing. Now that the holidays are over our coaches tell us that things begin to kick it up a notch and training really starts progressing. The past 8 weeks so far have been amazing. The progress I have made in swimming and biking have really surprised me. If in just 8 weeks I have come this far...imagine where I will be in 7 more months?!?!?!? Scary.

In December our training began adding two-a-day workouts. Basically this means many days had a do a combination of two sports...either biking/running or swimming/running. Getting use to this is very important because your body needs to adjust itself to transitioning events. I honestly didn't have very much trouble with this. The only uncomfortable part was going on our "brick runs". A brick run is a run that is done immediately after a bike ride. They call it a "brick" run because your legs and feet feel super heavy...like BRICKS...during these runs. Let's just say the name fits. My legs do feel like bricks but it usually goes away after like 20 minutes.

My biggest improvements came with swimming. Tomorrow I will be swimming 1K in the pool...that is 1,097 yards. How far is that you wonder??? Well...to put it into perspective, up and back on a standard 25 yard length pool is obviously 50 yards. So it is about 22 laps up and back on a pool. There is no way however that I can swim this straight...YET. I have to take 30 second rests in between each 100 yard interval. Considering that just over 8 weeks ago I could barely swim one length of the pool without DYING, I'd say I've come a long way.

Overall, it's been a pretty amazing experience so far...and we are only beginning. I can see the progress being made and some small changes in my body. The coaches are fantastic and the teammates I have started to meet have kept me motivated. I am going to try and update this blog a little more often starting in 09. It seems I will have much more to say and longer training sessions to talk about. I hope you all make it a GREAT 2009 and shoot for the MOON! I'm out for now.
