100 Mile Bike Ride!

July 24, 2010 Training

Today our team met in Long Beach to complete our 100 mile bike ride. We rode from Long Beach south on PCH for 50 miles. I made it all the way down towards just before Camp Pendleton before turning around and heading back. I had a pretty good ride and this definitely built some confidence for our race in just over a month. 100 mile bike rides are never easy but you want to be able to finish them with enough energy so that you can be prepared to run immediately afterwards. I finished feeling good and energized so it looks like my nutrition on my ride was dialed in. After finishing our ride our team got to hang out along the small beach where we met and got to unwind for a bit.

On Sunday, I was able to complete my 16 mile run in Santa Monica. I had a GREAT run and completed it in about 2 hrs 30 min. The weather was fantastic and the scenery along the beach was marvelous. Unfortunately I had to miss out on my swim so I only completed one out of my two workouts on the schedule.

Next week is another big one...another 100 mile bike on Saturday followed by 18 mile run on Sunday. Race day only about a month away so it's GAME time now folks. See ya next time!

Below are some pictures from my afternoon in Long Beach before and after my long bike ride:
